Pacific Ocean (July 19, 2004) - Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class John Barnachia opens the scuttle to the ship's Landing Signals Officer (LSO) shack aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Thomas S. Gates (CG 51) during UNITAS 45-04 Pacific Phase. Barnachia serves as a plane captain assisting with flight operations.
